A CHAMPAGNE bar in Lancaster city centre is set to be given the go-ahead by planners.
The champagne bar and 'coffee boutique' are the latest additions to plans for the new Travelodge hotel in Lancaster.
Centro Coffee and Juice Ltd, who run coffee shops in Liverpool and Manchester, are behind the idea.
It would be a coffee bar du
ring the day and champagne bar at night, and would be open to hotel guests and the general public.
Demolition of the former Regal Cinema in King Street is now complete, and developers Kempsten Ltd have submitted two more planning applications for the ground floor use of the hotel.
The other, a re-submitted application to allow food retail, has been recommended for rejection following objections from the Highways Agency.
They say the servicing arrangements are not adequate to support the size, type and frequency of deliveries associated with food retail.
It is thought Tesco Express has been lined up for this site.
However, council officers have recommended a variation of the conditions to allow a drinking establishment to be granted for another of the ground floor units.
The plans go before Monday's city council planning committee.
