A MAN who inflicted horrific injuries after biting his victim and ripping part of his ear off has been remanded in custody.
Michael Allen was told by a judge he faces a certain prison term of some length after a jury took less than an hour to convict him of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

His victim, Gerard Brennan, had his ear sewn back after the attack and also suffered other facial injuries after being attacked in Lower Church Street, Lancaster.

Allen, a three-day trial at Preston Crown Court was told, had been on a "pub-crawl" a few days before Christmas.

After words in the street he launched the attack, punching and biting.

Allen, 25, a removals man, of Ryelands Road, Lancaster, denied the charge.

He claimed to the jury he had acted only in self-defence after being attacked himself.

The verdict was unanimous.

Judge Pamela Bradley called for a background report but said a prison term for such a serious wounding was inevitable.

Allen will be returned to Preston Crown Court for sentence on September 25.
