A LANCASTER man wandered semi-naked around Lancaster, slapping passers-by and throwing cakes at a market stallholder, a court heard on Wednesday.
William Kitchen, 34, of Penny Street, was spotted near St Nicholas Arcades at 8.15am on May 10.
A woman saw him walking towards her wearing only boxer shorts.
Mrs Carolyn Craigen, prosecuting, said: "The defendant put both his hands on her should
ers and had a tight grip of her.
"He took his hand and started stroking her hair."
The woman ran away and called the police from a newsagent's shop at the entrance of St Nicholas Arcades.
Kitchen then wandered dazed and confused up to Market Square. On the way he punched and slapped passers-by.
Mrs Craigen said: "The owner of the Yummy Cupcake Company noticed a man staring at her wearing only his boxer shorts.
"He then swiped his arm across the cakes – 12 boxes with six cup cakes in each – that went all over the floor.
"He picked up one box and threw it at her, hitting her cheek."
Kitchen was eventually arrested.
Mrs Craigen said: "In interview he said he remembered taking a quantity of ecstasy tablets and had also been drinking.
"He had no recollection of parading through the city like this."
Kitchen pleaded guilty to one charge of criminal damage, six charges of assault and one of indecent exposure.
Mr David Hardy, defending, said: "He regrets his behaviour and expresses his remorse."
After reading pre-sentence reports, chair of the bench Mr Robert Webb imposed an 18-month community supervision order on Kitchen.
Kitchen was also ordered to pay £53.46 compensation for the cup cakes and must also pay £50 court costs.
