A TORRISHOLME boxer has teamed up with a Lancaster restaurateur to earn the chance to spar with a former world title challenger.
Samuel Wisniewski has been working out with former World Featherweight Title contender Michael Brodie at a top boxing gym in Manchester thanks to sponsorship from Fernando Sousa, boss at Verdes and Bar Eleven on Church Street.

Samuel has been learning his craft at the Northside gym, used by Brodie and former Commonwealth Welterweight Champion Craig Watson.

"Fernando paid for my travel expenses and this has allowed me to go to Manchester and really commit to my boxing," said the 22-year-old bantamweight.

Samuel now aims to go for the Class B Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) championships in October (having won the Class A title in 2007), then move on the full ABAs and consider turning pro.

He thanked Bob Howard and his team at Lancaster Boys' Club.
