Denis Koltsov – a 4th dan black belt karate instructor at Skerton Karate Club – took gold for the second year running at the Kofukan International Karate Competition, held in Lincoln on March 28.
Kofukan International competitions are organised in different countries every year and Koltsov was representing England in several events.

Last year this competition was held in Durban (South Africa), where Koltsov won three medals one of which was gold for Senior Male Kata (karate form).

Koltsov faced team-mate Garfield Carrot in the final and won the final round 5-0, to claim gold.

The competition went on with a team Kumite (fighting), where five people from one team fight the other team one by one, with the victories counted at the end.

A Koltsov victory in the semi-final against South Africa saw England through to the final, where they lost to Russia.

n Koltsov is a 4th dan black belt with more than 19 years of practice in Shito-ryu Karate-do.

He is affiliated to Kofukan association and opened his own dojo (karate club) in Skerton last year and is teaching youngsters (six years+) and adults (more on www.kofukan.info/lancaster).

He is also coaching a very successful Lancaster University team and teaching karate in local schools. For more information please contact him by email at lancaster@kofukan.info.
