There was a good turn out for the Pauline's Cyclist's Touring Club ride to Fleetwood, thanks to perfect dry conditions.
The ride went out to Cockerham via Snuff Mill, the riverside cyclepath to Glasson Dock and then Jeremy Lane.
Before reaching the windswept road across Cockerham Sands the group turned down Crimbles Lane for the more twisty, route to Lane Ends Far
m and Pilling.
The first 'off-road section was a farm track running alongside the sea-wall, which passed through two farmyards before rejoining the B road at 'Pilling Lane'.
Follwoing the ferry crossing from the Wyre estuary to Fleetwood, two of the group were lost leading to an impromptu lunch stop , when the missing members eventually located.
Turning at Rossall School, the cyclists made their way across to the western shore of the Wyre where two choices were available: an off-route section, or B roads to the Wyre Estuary Picnic site.
Then, following the Wyre Way, the last of the off-road riding brought the group to Skipool, and onto Out Rawcliffe and Cartford Bridge. An afternoon tea stop was reached at The Barn in Scorton, but not before a stray dog caused one of the riders to cycle into the back of another!
Next Sunday Frank and Ruth are leading the CTC run to the Whinfell area, meeting at Beaumont at 9am, coffee at Morrisons in Kendal.
The Tandem Club, running concurrent to the previous ride, gathered at Milnthorpe for Frank and Ruth's ride to Grizedale Forest.
The group set forth in brisk style across the Flatts, and shortly after Levens they took the old road beneath Whitbarrow scar, then on to Lindale for a brief pause before tackling Lindale Hill.
All efforts were then concentrated on the steep climb up to Hampsfield Fell.
A succession of challenging undulations followed, with a good technical descent before the busy A590 was reached and safely crossed. The riders then followed the country roads through the Furness Fells to Rusland with further undulations a-plenty, before the final ascent to Grizedale.
Descending down and the Hawkshead road and then brushing past the town itself, the riders continued alongside Esthwaite Water on their way to Near and Far Sawry, making for Lake Windermere and the ferry.
Once across, further climbs up to the Winster Valley had to be addressed before the long swoop down to Crosthwaite.
A final sweeping descent took them to Levens where the Milnthorpe starters headed back to the Square, leaving the Lancaster brigade to fuel up before meandering back home through Storth and Silverdale, to conclude a great day out with some 80 plus miles on the clock.
