LANCASTER CITY were given a tough lesson on what it means to be the team to beat as they lost out to Garforth Town.

The Dolly Blues were second best throughout as Garforth raised their game to take on the league leaders.

The Yorkshire outfit took the lead just inside twenty minutes from the penalty spot and they dominated the game and looked good for their 3-0 victory.
A revised City back four with captain Michael Stringfellow at right-back to replace the injured Rob Henry and new signing Jonathan Smith alongside Andrew Teague at centre-half were given a torrid time as Garforth attacked with aggression and style.

They took the lead on 19 minutes after Rob Wilson clipped the legs of Duncan Williams to concede a penalty; Liam Ormsby sent the penalty right-footed straight down the centre of the goal.

City's only shot on goal of the half came from the lively Paul Jarvis who found space just inside the box but could only scuff a shot goal-ward.

At the other end Tom Greaves fizzed a shot from just outside the box and hooked a volley wide while Neil Marshall and Wilson bravely blocked shots on the line to stop the score getting out of hand.

Three minutes before the end of the half and Garforth deservedly increased their lead in somewhat contentious fashion.

Jordan Connerton curled a lovely ball down the left-wing to set Roger Sharrock through on goal; the winger was judged to be offside – he looked two-yards on - from the resulting free-kick Greaves finally found the net.
In fairness it was some strike. He swivelled and volleyed in one movement to send the ball over Martin Fearon and into the top left corner.

The second half, particularly after the introduction of Max Rothwell, Mark Jackson and Dominic Ward, was a more pleasing sight to City fans. Sharrock turned and shot wide from the edge of the box and Connerton miscued a couple of efforts from just inside the box.

The first Connerton chance came from a delightfully chipped through ball from Jarvis who persevered down both wings and just needed someone to gamble on a run at his low crosses.

Unfortunately all this huffing and puffing occurred after Chris Kamara had bundled the ball over the line from two yards to put his side three up and assure that they left the league leaders deflated.
