Lancaster 214-6
Barrow 105
3D Sports Northern League Division One
LANCASTER set their season back on track with a convincing win over the travelling Cumbrians.

Barrow captain Ian Allington won the toss and asked Lancaster to bat first.

Runs were hard to come-by early on, with Barrow professional Pasan Wanasinghe and Daryl Wearing (2-60) nipping the ball about.

Taufeeq Umar departed without scoring, stuck in his crease with a ball that cut back into his pads.

A short partnership between incoming Mike Stevens and Ryan Nelson (16) steadied the situation, until the latter fell to Wanasinghe (3-66)
Credit has to be given to Stevens (85 not out) who batted the large majority of the innings and was ably supported by Jamie Heywood (22) and Michael Walling (20).

An exciting cameo innings from Brendan Hetherington (36 off 25 balls) took Lancaster over the 200 mark, leaving Rob Childs and Stevens to work the ball about and give the home side a very competitive total.

Barrow's innings opened up with Allington and Darren Clark facing Lancaster's Tim Barry and Danny Milligan and it was Barry with the breakthrough, trapping Allington in front.

The prized wicket of Wanasinghe fell to Milligan at the other end, nipping the ball back in the penultimate over of his allotted spell.

Umar replaced Milligan and bowled tidily, deservedly picking up Jonathan Miles, trapped in front as the youngster went to cut his wrong 'un.

More inspired keeping from Hetherington gave Barry his third wicket, young Liam Livingstone raising his foot for a fraction to a leg side ball and finding the bails whipped off.

With Barrow happy to preserve wickets and bat out a losing draw, Lancaster had to force the initiative.

Liam Moffat (1-12) bowled in dangerous areas and swung the ball considerably, taking the wicket of Ian Kermode, who was bowled through the gate.

When opener Milligan was brought back on, 12 overs remained to grab the last four wickets.

Chris Brookshaw was caught at the crease and then Milligan's slower ball deceived Paul Wilcock (16) and bowled him.

Tim Barry was also brought back at the other end, keeping the pressure on and men all round the bat.

Wearing (14) looked to be the rock to save Barrow before he mistimed a drive off a low full-toss straight back to Milligan, leaving Lancaster needing just one more wicket.

And it came in the 47th over, that slower ball again as Rob Lightfoot (11) stopped his shot, Ryan Nelson taking a comfortable catch in cover, sparking Lancaster's celebrations.

n LANCASTER 2nds lost batting first at Barrow. Having posted a total of 124, Barrow reached it losing seven wickets, despite excellent bowling from Lancaster junior Charlie Swarbrick, who got 3-2 off his four overs.

* LANCASTER's National Knockout hopes were dashed on Sunday at Keswick.

Rain prevented play once Lancaster had reached 52-1 after 10 overs.

Lancaster lost 1-0 on a bowl out.
