AS THE saying goes all good things must come to an end.
Lancaster City's incredible winning streak of 13 league games was forcefully stopped at Woodley Sports as they were comprehensively beaten.
All the talk post-match was of City's inabilit
y to match the home side on their artificial pitch, if the truth be told the Dolly Blues must hold their hands up and say they were second best against a side they thrashed 7-1 early in the season.
On 14 minutes Danny Queeley curled in a delightful effort after cutting inside on his right foot, leaving Martin Fearon with no chance.
Moments later and Fearon made a superb one-handed save to deny a Danny Gee effort; there was nothing he could do on 29 minutes when Antoni Sarcevic grabbed Woodley's second.
A clever back-heel from Liam Hogan set Sarcevic on his way, the City midfield and defence parted, he motored on an unleashed a belting strike into the top corner.
For their part City did not let their heads drop and on another day after Jordan Connerton stung the gloves of Higginbotham in the Woodley net and Mike Rushton hit the side netting before crossing for Paul Jarvis to volley wide City would have had a couple of goals and be in with a shout.
It was not to be and after Queeley squeezed in a near post effort just before the break and Dennis Sherriff hit a well-placed lob over Fearon just after it the game was all over.
In true grandstand style the Dolly Blues finished well, Connerton smashed in a left-foot shot on 87 minutes for a glimmer of consolation and substitutes Rob Wilson and Dominic Ward came close with a long shot that struck the foot of the post and a looping header.
