A winning idea to keep kids' teeth clean
A VISIT to the dentist with a difference has won 22-year-old student Lottie Duke of Lancaster a top design prize.
Lottie's entry in the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) Design Awards consisted of a 'dental experience' that would visit schools, encouraging children to take up holistic oral healthcare.
In addition to getting a check-up in an exciting tent, children would be presented with a product pack aimed at making caring for their teeth a fun activity.
One of the items she designed was a toothbrush with a UV plaque light to make the plaque on their teeth glow. A 'plug pet' that only survives if children feed it their used toothpaste foam twice a day was also included in the pack.
Despite 70 other entries, Lottie, also a final year Design for Industry student, won first prize, an internship with GlaxoSmithKline worth £3,750.
