DIABETES patients are being given the opportunity to learn more about their condition thanks to an education programme being delivered by the local primary care trust.
The X-PERT programme is a six-week diabetes education programme.
Patients learn about the latest treatments and management of type two diabetes.

They are also given the opportunity to explore issues they may have with their condition.

Five cou
rses are planned over the summer and these will run over a six-week period for two-and-a-half hours per week.
Patients who have taken part in previous programmes have reported feeling more in-formed about their condition, with the ability to control it more confidently.

Kevin Parkinson, acting chief executive at NHS North Lancashire, said: "We are delighted to be funding this programme of education for people living with diabetes.

"NHS North Lancashire is committed to helping our residents manage their condition.

"Self-management education has been proven to have effects on reduced attendances at accident and emergency departments, less contact with GPs and reduced outpatient appointments."

The courses will start on the following dates:
* July 3 – Morecambe Health Centre (morning and afternoon sessions).
* August 10 – Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
* August 12 – Carnforth Station (morning and afternoon sessions).

Patients interested in taking part should phone 0800 988 5530 /07545 609387 or email annamarie.jesson@eppcic.co.uk.
