CRIME continues to fall locally, according to police figures.
There were 1,244 fewer crimes reported in the Lancaster, Morecambe and Wyre division in 2007/8 compared to the previous year.

New figures for the year 2007/08 show that all crime in the Northern Division of the police which covers Lancaster, Morecambe and the Wyre, fell by 7 per cent.

Vehicle crime was down by 26 per cent (-447 offences), robbery was down by 13.9 per cent (-10 offences), volent crime reduced by 10 per cent (-246 offences) and criminal damage by 8.5 per cent (-456 offences for the year).

Ch Supt Tim Jacques, head of local police, said the figures were "excellent'' and said that increasing links between the police and the public are a major reason for the reductions.
