THE 'Tardis' has landed at Carnforth Train Station, much to the delight of Dr Who fans.
Lovers of the legendary time traveller have been flocking to The Tardis, a new business selling Dr Who collectables and many other kinds of memorabilia.
The local community can also access the internet at The Tardis, buy computer goods and take ad
vantage of services such as printing, digital photography and desktop publishing.
The Tardis also recently welcomed actor Colin Baker, a former TV Dr Who, to a special meet-and-greet day at the shop attended by crowds of devoted Time Lord fans.
Martyn Blenkharn, who has turned his hobby into a business, said: "You will find every enemy and friend of 'The Doctor' in one form or another with figures, books, videos and much more.
"The shop also sells other collectable toys and the 'war-gaming' favourite, Games Workshop."
Martyn explains that he was part of the generation that grew up with Dr Who and that the show was always the highlight of the week's TV, even if viewed from behind the sofa!
Over the last few years he has been trading Dr Who memorabilia on ebay along with his other interest – first day covers.
His eldest son, John, will be helping to promote sporting memorabilia and his younger son Peter, who is a huge fan of war-gaming, is hoping to set up a gaming club in the New Year.
Martyn says he wants to complement the other retail units at Carnforth Train Station which specialise in railway memorabilia.
He said: "As well as a big range of modern and older Dr Who collectibles there are themed toys from the 60s, 70s, and 80s such as Thunderbirds, Stingray and other die casts from Gerry Anderson's TV programmes.
"Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars and Star Trek themes are represented along with the usual Corgi and Dinky Toys from the last 40 years.
"We also sell collector's items for new blockbusters such as The Golden Compass.
"You might wonder how all this fits into one shop, but it is a 'Tardis', and for those who have never seen this long-running sci-fi show (is there anybody who hasn't?), it stands for 'Time and Relative Dimensions in Space'.
"So it's bigger on the inside than on the outside!"
