A MOPED rider stopped by police in Lancaster city centre with no learner plate was found to be drunk.
Simon Leigh Mahon, 21, of Banks Crescent, Heysham, pleaded guilty to driving whilst over the limit, without a licence, and without insurance when he appeared at Lancaster Magistrates Court.

The court heard that it was around 3am on August 11 when police in Lancaster city centre saw Mahon riding a moped on King Street with a pillion passenger.

They were followed and were stopped outside the Revolution bar.
Mahon only had a provisional licence and no learner plates.
A roadside breath test revealed that Mahon was over twice the legal drink drive limit.

Defending, Jonathan Jack-son told the court that the
pillion passenger invalidated Mahon's insurance and licence.

"He had two drinks at the Duke of Rothesay pub where he is a chef and went home and had two more drinks.

"He was asked by a friend for a lift into town."

Magistrates disqualified Mahon for 18 months and fined him £180.
For having no insurance, he was fined £90 and for the licence offence there was no separate penalty.

There was an order made for £30 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
