GERALDINE Smith MP popped into a local pub last week as part of a Government drive to back publicans.
As part of the national campaign Proud of Pubs Week, The Hest Bank Inn owner/chefs Robert Glenn and Robert Marshall-Slater invited Geraldine for a look around their pub the Hest Bank Hotel.
Robert and Robert discussed with Geraldine a number of issues that are impacting on the pub trade, such as the effects that the smoking ban is having on business and some of the greener issues that they are in the process of introducing.
Proud of Pubs Week was launched by UK pub and bar industry newspaper The Publican, setting out to encourage the Government to back its publicans. The campaign, which included a series of events at Westminster, saw more than 100 MPs joining Geraldine Smith by visiting their locals.
