A LANCASTER rowing club will attempt to be the first people to row across Morecambe Bay this weekend in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The John O'Gaunt Rowing Club will be crossing the Bay in a river quad rowing boat - a challenge which, up until now, has never been attempted before.
Starting at Grange-over-Sands around midday on Sunday, July 6, the team of four rowers and a Cox
will endeavour to make their journey, which could take them up to three hours depending on the tides, before arriving at the lifeboat station in Morecambe.
Dressed in pink, the team will be raising money for Cancer Research UK's breast cancer awareness campaign.
Rower Sue Palmer, 43, from Lancaster said: "We are really excited about our challenge, particularly as this has never been done before.
"It will be fantastic fun but a lot of hard work.
"We will probably cover about 11 - 13 miles depending on how far we go with the tides.
"As the wind is also unpredictable in the bay causing some swell, we could end up with quite a lot of water in the boat.
"The conditions could well be pretty tough but we are ready to take on the challenge.
"As a team, we have all been touched by breast cancer in one way or another.
"We're all really looking forward to the day, hoping to have a lot of fun, and help to support a really important cause at the same time."
The team will also be raising money for the Lancashire Bulldogs Wheelchair Basketball Team.
