ASPIRING scriptwriters are being invited to flex their creative muscles and learn more about film-making by taking part in a series of workshops across the area.
The 'celebr8 on the Silver Screen' competition is open to everyone and you don't need to have any experience in writing for the screen, as the competition is supported by a series of free workshops designed to inspire, encourage and equip people to t
ake up creative writing.
Entrants are asked to submit a script or piece of creative writing which can be turned into a short film, illustrating 'What diversity means to me'.
Entries will be judged by a panel of film and TV experts and one winner will be chosen from each of the five counties that make up the north west - Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire - who will see their film concept produced professionally and premiered across the region.
Workshops will be highly interactive so numbers for each group will be limited - to book your place telephone Stockport Art Gallery on 0161 474 4453, or email stockport.artgallery@stockport.gov.uk. All places are free.
The winning films will be shown at a regional premiere at the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT) in Liverpool on September 16 2008 and then screened at cinemas across the region.
The deadline for entries is July 23 2008.
*A workshop takes place at The Circle Bar, Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, on Monday, July 7 between 1pm and 3pm with Cumbrian playwright Julian McKiernan.
