THE North West Ambulance Service and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service have joined forces to provide safer homes for patients.
Non-emergency patient transport service (PTS) staff are identifying patients they deem to be vulnerable and asking if they would like to take part in a free home fire safety check carried out by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

NWAS is able to act as an invaluable intermediary between vulnerable people and the Fire and Rescue Service who can then help with fire safety in the home.

The PTS crews inform their patients of the service offered by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, and if accepted the PTS staff complete a referral form for each patient, and forward it to the fire Service for a visit to be arranged at a mutually convenient time.

Posters educating the public about the initiative will be displayed in all PTS vehicles.

The scheme is being piloted in the Morecambe Bay area which includes, Morecambe, Lancaster and surrounding areas, and it is expected to last for three months.

However, homes across the county can arrange visits by calling the free phone number; 0800 169 1125.
