Artell: Strikers can shut me up at Forest

IT ONLY seems like two minutes ago that we were all looking forward to our summer break after a relatively successful first season in the Football League.
Now, with the hardest month of the year for a footballer behind us, we've already knocked off one of the 46 League games.
People talk about 'second season syndrome' but if Saturday's result and performance is anything to go by then things look very rosy and 'second season syndrome' won't be mentioned.
We couldn't have asked for a better first fixture in order to judge exactly how successful we can be this season. Wycombe are one of the teams predicted to get promoted and if Saturday is anything to go by, we've got nothing to fear.
After a fairly even first half, we totally dominated the game and could very nearly have won if Michael Carr's shot hadn't been cleared of the line.
I think one of the main reasons that we controlled the second half is because only half a dozen Wycombe players had 90 minutes under their belt before Saturday (the majority had only played 45 minutes in their pre-season friendlies). This contributed to Wycombe's right-back having to go off with cramp. Our preparation for the game on the other hand was fantastic.
We got stronger as the game went on, looked solid (apart from one blip) and scored from a rehearsed set-piece.
It's important to take something from your first game to get you up and running and not many teams will return from Adams Park with points.
From a personal point of view, it's always nice to get on the scoresheet and hopefully it will be the first of many. I'll certainly be pulling the strikers' legs this week as I've now scored two goals in two games, although hopefully they'll shut me up by scoring on Wednesday night.
Moving on to the Forest game and if we thought Wycombe away was tough then Forest away certainly will be. Having said that we thought both Preston and Wolves would be tough last season and we got results there although Sheffield United brought us back down to earth.
We'll go there confident of getting a result and we'll respect them but we certainly won't fear them.
It's always nice to pit your wits against higher league opposition and we acquitted ourselves well against both Tranmere and Carlisle in pre-season. We will have to raise our game even further, which will hopefully be enough to see us into round two.
