MORECAMBE won through to the semi-finals of the Furness Building Society League Cup on Sunday after winning a bowlout against Kendal.
Forced to gain a result by a bowl out by the league when both teams were keen to replay the game, Morecambe were indebted to their youngsters as they won 2–1.
Those to hit the stumps were two of the club's promising young players, Ryan Smith and A
lex Thistlethwaite.
They both held their nerves well with Smith hitting to equal the scores and Thistlethwaite in sudden death.
Mark Woodhead said of the two 16-year-olds: "It can be pretty intimidating to come to a new club, more so as a youngster, but these two have taken that giant leap from village cricket (Thistlethwaite from Warton and Smith from Heysham) to Premier League cricket in their stride.
"It is credit to the local clubs who have brought the youngsters through their ranks, but you can understand them wanting to play at the highest possible level they can.
"They both have real bright futures in the game."
Morecambe now have a home semi-final tie against Leyland this Sunday.
Leyland are one place above them in the league and will be wanting to gain revenge for their recent narrow six-run defeat at the hands of Morecambe last weekend. Wickets pitched at 1.30pm.
* ALL local cricket was washed out on Saturday in the 3D Sports Northern League, the Moore and Smalley Palace Shield and the Heysham Port Westmorland League.
