Sammy McIlroy says his side will be going all out to record a shock victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup tonight.
The Shrimps' boss is urging his side to go and 'enjoy the experience'' as they meet the Championship newcomers at the City Ground in the first round of the Carling Cup.

A year ago, his side caused perhaps the shock of the round with a 2-1 victory at Deepdale that earned the Shrimps national headlines.

Victory over Wolves in the second round at Molineux was also another highlight of the club's memorable run which came to an end against Sheffield United.

McIlroy said: "It will be tough but it is a great place to go and another great experience for our fans.

"Who would have thought two or three years ago that Morecambe would be playing Nottingham Forest in a competitive game like this?
"They are a good side and have made some excellent signings in the summer so we know we are the underdogs but I will tell the players to go and enjoy themselves.

"It's a great place to play, it's full of history and tradition but it is a great pitch and our lads should enjoy that.

"Last year's good run doesn't guarantee that we will do the same again this year."

McIlroy reported that there were no new injuries after Saturday's encouraging draw at Wycombe with Michael Howard continuing to step up his training after a hamstring injury.

McIlroy is still keen to bring in at least one new face but needs to reduce his squad before he can make any new signings.

Winger Simon Wiles is still training with the club while Chester striker Chris Holroyd played in the friendly defeat to Kendal last Tuesday.
