SAMMY McIlroy will be saying 'thanks and goodbye' to several players in the next few days.
The Morecambe boss (below) has already been working behind the scenes talking to players and their agents about moving to Morecambe for a big push for the club's second Football League season.

That work will continue in coming weeks as he targets a handful of players he believes can improve his squad for 2008/9.

But in order to balance the books he will have to move some players on – including some who are tied on contracts – and that's not a prospect he's looking forward to.

Who would you, realistically, like to see in a Morecambe shirt next season? Post a comment on this story.

Sammy told The Visitor: "Every one of my players has given their best for Morecambe Football Club during my time here and I thank them for that.

"We haven't been battling relegation and our first season, by any measure, has been a successful one. But it will be even harder next season and I have to prepare for that. Unfortunately that means saying goodbye to some players and it's not a part of the manager's job that I enjoy."

Meanwhile Morecambe prepare for the toughest of end of season games away against potential champions, MK Dons, on the back of a disappointing defeat at home to Lincoln.

And McIlroy knows his players will have to sharpen up in front of goal to have any chance of making a game of it.

"Lincoln did a smash and grab on us, to be honest. We battered them for long periods, especially in the first half, but you have to score when you're on top or you'll be punished - we've learned that a lot this season and it has to improve," he said.

It looks like the boss will have the same squad available to choose from at Milton Keynes and hinted that he may only make changes on the bench.

The Morecambe players look set to be backed by a few hundred fans on Saturday - many of them choosing a 'beach party' theme for the now traditional last game fancy dress.

And those fans have just learned that their support has been rewarded by a special season ticket offer for next season.

Morecambe have frozen the majority of their season ticket and match day prices for the forthcoming season and have introduced a NEW family match day ticket in an effort to attract more young families, while anyone who buys two adult season tickets and one child's season ticket gets a second child's season ticket free.

The only prices to rise are for the seats in the main stand.

The Shrimps' board say they have taken the decision as a way of giving fans something back for their support in their first ever Football League season.

Chief Executive Rod Taylor said: "We have decided to freeze the prices as a way of thanking fans for following us this season. They have been superb all year.

"The prices are among the best in League 2 and are very similar to the price of a season ticket when we played in the Conference."

The family ticket was trialed with success for the Shrimps' game against Lincoln City last Saturday.

Now two adults and two children (under 16) can buy tickets for the main stand paddock and north stand for £25 or £23 for the car wash terrace.

The tickets have to be purchased before games and are available from the club's commercial office.

Added Mr Taylor: "We had a great response to season tickets last year and we are hoping for the same next year. These are exciting times and we want as many people as possible to join in that success.''

As has been the case in most seasons recently there is an extra discount for fans who buy tickets before June 30. The ticket also entitles fans to watch Reserve team league games for free.

The tickets go on sale from Monday, May 19 for current season ticket holders, giving those who have a set seat in the stand chance to renew.

Tickets go on open sale for the early bird offer on June 1 with the prices rising on July 1. For details contact the club on 01524 411797.
