Morecambe 127-9
Lancaster 95-4
3D Sports Northern League Division One
On Monday, Morecambe again found themselves at home, this time to derby rivals Lancaster.

Lancaster won the toss and duly inserted Morecambe who again were grateful to a solid opening stand from Vishal Goyal and Mark Woodhead.

For the third successive day, Woodhead got a start but he again failed to get the big score. He fell on 44 and when Mark Lomas and the promoted Tommy Clough followed, the promising start had become 65-3.

Goyal and Bruce Martin began to repair the damage and had reached 83 off 25 when the forecast rain came. This took two hours out of the game, with Lancaster refusing an early tea, losing even more playing time.

The game was reduced to 33 overs meaning Morecambe had only eight overs left to bat. Three 50s in three days proved just too much for Goyal as he fell for 44, but he had a fine weekend, scoring in excess of 150.
Morecambe went for quick runs with overs running out; 127 was posted, leaving Lancaster a run chase of under four an over.

Morecambe started well as Gareth Pedder cleaned up Jamie Heywood in the first over, this completed a miserable day for him as he had earlier spilled two catches in Morecambe's innings.

It was then Jono Gates's turn to get in the wickets as he trapped Michael Stevens lbw.

Ryan Nelson then joined Tim Barry and the rebuilding process began. Still smarting from their defeat against bottom club Fleetwood on Saturday, the side seemed determine to get one over their derby rivals, but Morecambe's bowlers did not allow them to get away.

Graham Lee and Bruce Martin continued the fine start from Gates and Pedder as Lancaster slowly fell behind the required run rate.

This proved to much for Barry, who needed the assistance of a runner, following a niggle, but this seemed to up his game as he memorably deposited Martin for a fine straight six.

Nelson continued to play well at the other end as the chase came down to 54 off seven overs.

Barry then fell well caught by Goyal, making amends for an earlier spill, and then when Michael Walling fell in similar circumstances the following over the scenario become 40 runs needed off five overs.

Amazingly Dave Heywood came out and defended, taking the fact that denying Morecambe bonus points was more important than going for a win.
The end of innings turned into a farce as Lancaster refused to run for anything prompting some booing from the crowd.

Both teams ended up with four points each, what they would have got if they had been rained off. However it was four more than Blackpool, who went in to the game top of the league, and were overturned by Fleetwood.

This means that only one point separate Kendal, Blackpool and Morecambe at the top.

* THE second team fixture at Lune Road was abandoned due to rain, Morecambe having been 62-2 when played stopped.

* CARNFORTH suffered a losing draw at Barrow on Monday.
