HORNBY-BASED artist, Wyn Abbot, recently became the first person to be awarded the Made in Lancashire Business Development Award.
The competition, targeted at Lancashire art and craft producers, offers entrants the chance to win £1,000 with which to contribute towards developing their business.

Wyn, who for 22 years had a successful and happy career as a senior manager in h
ealth and social care, decided to make an astronomic decision; possibly one of the hardest decisions of her life – she quit her full-time job to become a self-employed artist.

Wyn, who still can't quite believe all that's happened in the last nine months, said: "Of course the decision wasn't made overnight. Art has been a lifelong passion for me, and prior to my decision to quit my job I had been slowly building the tools with which to set up on my own. I had a studio and had already established a number of loyal customers.

"When I decided to give up my career and regular salary to pursue my own business it was a huge leap of faith. The reaction from my colleagues, friends and family and in particular my husband, has been so supportive, and I haven't regretted a single minute."

Wyn has been focusing on her sculptures for the last five years and is deservedly gaining repute for her unique work, hand-crafted without the use of a mould.

Ambitious Wyn already has plans to invest her £1,000 prize money in elegant brochures, business cards, and of course a website to showcase her work.
