SOUTH Lakeland District Council making major changes to the waste collection service provided to 11,000 houses in the Ambleside, Bowness, Grasmere and Windermere area.
Wheelie bins are now being delivered that will enable collections of green garden waste to start this month along with the introduction of grey bins for non-recyclable waste.

The green waste collection service was due to start this month and the council is expecting many gardeners to take advantage of the slowly improving weather to start using their bins in readiness for the first collections.

SLDC's recycling officer, Margaret Blackstone, said: "We are working hard to get as many green bins as possible."

Householders that have not received their bins should then telephone the SLDC Customer Contact Centre on 0845 050 4434.
