FELLWALKERS and mountain bikers in the Lake District have been urged to go out on the hill fully equipped – even if the weather forecast looks good.
The warning follows an incident in which the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team had to attend three mountain bikers who got into difficulties on the High Street range.

The trio were poorly equipped and had been over-ambitious in choosing their route, completing only half of it. The rescue team helped the riders down from the fells on Sunday evening.

The incident has prompted the warning that anyone venturing onto the fells – on foot or on bike – should carry a torch, whistle and waterproof clothing, and be able to read a map and compass.
