THE sun shone on Arnside Spring Show, which attracted a significant increase in entries recently for every class in this open horticultural show.
The new class for floating hellebore heads proved very popular, as did the cake and cookery sections, while the plant stall was well stocked, with a mass of cut-flowers and plants.

Extra tables had to be added for the exhibits and, with the sun shining through the windows, the hall presented a lovely spring picture.

It was a relief to organisers, who had feared that putting the show back after an early Easter would mean many spring flowers might be well past their best.

However a cold spell held them back and the standard was high.
There were fewer entries in the children's open classes, although the decorated happy face buns class was well supported.

The show was again well supported by the school, with 49 entries of flowers grown from bulbs and 123 craft entries.

Show secretary, Irene Bashforth, thanked visitors, exhibitors, and all who had worked hard for the show and Ruby Smith, well known in the village for her work on community enterprises, presented the prizes.
