SHOPPING channel QVC has confirmed that it plans to go ahead with another programme selling some of the county's top food products. QVC also say they hope to continue developing the programme in future.
The decision follows the success of a pilot programme last month in the spring. The one hour show, 'Tastes of the Lake District', was the first English food programme ever to be shown on QVC.
The show led to sales of nearly £30,000, delighting bot
h the broadcaster and the four Cumbrian producers who took part. Products from The Pie Mill in Keswick, The Pudding Room on the shores of Lake Coniston, The Old Smokehouse near Penrith and Sillfield Farm in Endmoor near Kendal were snapped up by the channel's viewers.
The next programme will be broadcast in August and discussions will now start to agree the line up of products.
Emily Gilkes from QVC said: "We are pleased with the results from the show in April. The next show will include some of the products featured in the first programme and some new lines.
"We want to build the programme so that it goes from strength to strength, and show great quality premium food from Cumbria."
The programmes have been negotiated with QVC by Made in Cumbria, the organisation that helps to promote the county's food and craft producers.
John Anderson, Made in Cumbria's food specialist, said; "We're really delighted that QVC wants to do more programmes. The reaction to the pilot was fantastic.
