MANIC Basil, his domineering wife Sybil, and the hopeless language-challenged waiter Manuel will be sending diners at a Lake District restaurant into a spin at a 'Faulty Towers' style dining experience this weekend.
On Saturday (July 19) a professional team of Australian actors and actresses will be recreating the cult-status television series 'Faulty Towers' at The Famous Wild Boar, near Crook.

Nigel Bell who plays Basil said: "You can be one of the steady stream of bemused guests trying to make Manuel understand what it is you want.
"Innocently ask for an 'ice bucket' and you'll probably end up with a 'nice bucket'; opening a bottle of wine can become a huge drama; and maybe in the middle of these events, you might get some service – Faulty style, of course.

"Everything that can go wrong will - in fact this is best described as organised chaos!!"

The two-hour interactive performance revolves around a three-course meal starting with Basil and Manuel seating the guests, performing as everyone eats and concluding as dessert is served. Basil requests: "No riff-raff, thank you!"

Group marketing manager of English Lakes Hotels, Colin Fox said: "It will be a very entertaining evening. We have heard great reviews of the performance and are looking forward to seeing it for ourselves."

The Interactive Theatre Australia team of Nigel Bell (Basil), Tony Nixon (Manuel) and Alison Pollard-Mansergh (Sybil) have been performing the well-loved characters for 11 years and their show at the Famous Wild Boar is their only stop in the Lake District on a seven-week tour of the UK which includes their debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

A few tickets for the three-course meal and two-hour interactive show are still available at a cost of £34.95 per person. Early booking is recommended, log on to www.elh.co.uk/restaurants or contact The Famous Wild Boar at Crook on 015934 45225.
