CUMBRIA Chief Constable Craig Mackey has awarded £500 to neighbourhood police officers and residents in Barrow Island to purchase seating and planters for a community development project.
The money has been awarded from the Police Property Fund, which is financed by the auction of unclaimed lost property and money seized from the proceeds of crime.

This money is then used to fund charitable projects that have an impact on community
safety and crime reduction in Cumbria. The only exception is money seized from the proceeds of drugs crime, which is used to fund treatment centres and other drugs-related community initiatives.

Community Officer for Barrow Island, PC Michelle Milburn, applied for the money on behalf of the Ferry Road Triangle Association, who are a group of local residents working towards improving the quality of life

The group are in the process of creating a multi-games area near a local park to improve facilities for young people in the area.

The money will pay for new seating and planters, which will improve the environment, and provide parents with somewhere to sit while they supervise younger children and for teenagers to congregate while they wait to use the facilities.

PC Milburn said: "Youngsters complained but the new seating and multi-games area will provide somewhere to meet."
