ANTHONY Batty, 57, from West Shore Park on Walney Island in Barrow appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday, Monday, where he was sentenced to nine months in prison after being convicted of one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one count of taking an indecent image of a child and nine counts of making indecent images of children, where images were downloaded from the internet and, in some cases, printed from the computer.
Detective Constables Craig Wakefield and Jayne Douglas from South Cumbria's public protection unit led the investigation.

DC Wakefield said: "Our thoughts today are with the victim and their family, and we hope this result will go some way to allowing them to move forward with their lives and put this painful experience behind them. Cumbria Constabulary is committed to identifying and prosecuting sex offenders and supporting victims of this terrible crime. Today's result reinforces the message that this type of crime is unacceptable and that, with the help of our partner agencies, we will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.

"Batty had previous convictions for similar offences, but did not learn his lesson. Today's result shows that we will continue to monitor the behaviour of offenders, and will do everything in our power to ensure offenders are brought to justice.

"This conviction is a testament to the hard work and commitment of South Cumbria's Public Protection Unit, and the efforts of the victim's family."
