Monkeying around
WHY not live life more adventurously this May bank holiday with a day at the two Go Ape High Wire Forest Adventure in Cumbria at Grizedale Forest and Whinlatter Forest Park?
A fun day out with your friends and family, you'll be fitted with a climbing harness and given instruction before trekking from tree to tree some 40ft high above the forest floor.
The courses are made up of five sections, each beginning with a climb up a rope ladder. Once in the canopy, you can weave your way through a variety of fun and challenging obstacles, such as the hugely popular Tarzan swing, the stirrups and the apple pickers ladder. An easier route is an option for the faint hearted. Each section ends with an exhilarating zip slide that takes you back down terra firma.
A new addition to the courses are the Go Ape wooden primates. Go Ape commissioned an artist to create a unique series of primate sculptures for its 17 courses across the UK, carved from vast logs of wood using a chainsaw.
It took artist Tim Atkins from Suffolk an amazing four days to complete each of the new creations.
The chimps, gorillas and orang-utans reach between 5-7ft in height, are 2ft wide and each one weighs-in at around 300-500kg.
The cost of Go Ape is £25 for adults and £20 for kids (10 to 17 years).
The minimum age 10 years, minimum height 1.4m (4ft 7in) and maximum weight of 20.5 stone. Under 18 year olds must be accompanied by a participating adult.
One adult can supervise either up to two children (where one or both is under 16) or up to five 16-17 year olds.
Booking is essential so please call 0845 643 2034 for tickets.
