A NEW DVD exploring the natural beauty and hidden heritage of our area has been produced by award-winning videographer Chris Abram.
'Bittern Country – Our Heritage' looks at why the Carnforth, Silverdale, Arnside and Milnthorpe areas are so special.
The film is the latest in a series also featuring 'The Lune Valley – Our Heritage', which has become the most viewed and highly-recommended video ever made about the Lune Valley.
DVDs of The Lune Valley – Our Heritage have been sold throughout the UK and sent to Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, South Africa and to most countries in Europe.
Narrated by Chris, Bittern Country –Our Heritage features stunning aerial videography, offering a completely new perspective on the towns and villages.
Highlights include interviews with the Arnside/Silverdale AONB current chief executive, Ian Henderson, and the Queen's Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson MBE, in his home.
The film follows Cedric as he takes a party of walkers across the treacherous sands of Morecambe Bay.
We are treated to a tour around historic Leighton Hall by the owners Richard and Suzie Reynolds and the RSPB nature Reserve at Leighton Moss is shown through various seasons.
Along the way Silverdale is shown in all its glory, Lancaster and Morecambe Model Engineering Society is featured and the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is visited. All of this and more can be found on disc one. On disc two, beautiful areas such as Dallam Park, Storth, Arnside Knot are featured and there is more on Morecambe Bay itself.
A detailed section on Carnforth looks at the town's importance as a road junction on the old turnpike and coach route to Scotland. We hear of the visit of Bonnie Prince Charlie to Carnforth with his Jacobite army and follow Carnforth as first the canals came, followed by the railway era, making it into one of the most important 'sheds' on the London to Scotland West Coast Main Line.
The film demonstrates how the railway station has been preserved and made into a successful tourist attraction based upon the David Lean film 'Brief Encounter.'
Finally Chris visits Carnforth's annual town crier competition with competitors travelling from all over Britain to take part.
