GREEN-FINGERED pupils at Heversham St Peter's Primary School have been nourishing and nurturing their fruit and vegetables to make them award winners.
Earlier this year Booths supermarkets invited primary schools in the North West and Yorkshire to enter a 'Grow Your Own' competition and be in with a chance to win £1,500 for their school.
More than 50 schools enter-ed, growing some fantastic fruit and vegetables.
The schools had until July 4 to complete either a photo or DVD diary of their growing experiences from sowing the seeds to harvesting their crops to be in with a chance of presenting some of their finest home-grown produce at an awards ceremonyat Booths central office in Preston tomorrow, Wednesday.
Eric Robson, chairman of the BBC's Gardeners' Question Time together with two of Booths' fresh produce experts Matthew Bruno and Val Gibson will judge the entries and present them with a Gold, Silver or Bronze award at the awards ceremony.
Eric said: "We are looking forward to seeing what all the schools have grown and what the children have learnt. It is important that they are taught where their food comes from in their early years to encourage them to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle."
