County roadshow will display Roman relics

Ancient artefacts including Roman pottery and axes unearthed in Cumbria are to be displayed during a roadshow.

During the five-day event, organised by the Lake District National Park, local history will be highlighted through a series of open days.

Archaeologists and English Heritage experts will also be on hand. The treasures on show will include 4,000 year old axes.

Activities and venues include:

September 9, Beacon Museum, Whitehaven, heritage fair from 1pm to 4pm;

September 12, YHA Windermere, archaeology drop-in sessions 6.30pm to 8 pm;

September 13, St George's Hall, Millom, drop-in sessions 10 am to 1 pm;

September 13, Pensioners' Hut, Millom, Lake District archaeology talk and information sharing, 2pm to 4 pm, also on

September 14, YHA Keswick, Lake District archaeology talk and information sharing1.30 to 3.30 pm.
