Beauties fight for Miss Morecambe crown

A LUCKY girl will follow in the great tradition of Morecambe beauty queens when she is crowned 'Miss Morecambe' this Saturday night (May 29).

The contest will return after a two-year absence at The Clarendon Hotel on the prom.

The winner of Miss Morecambe will go on to compete for the Miss England title at Champneys Health centre, Leicester and then possibly on to the Miss World final in Vietnam.

Tickets to the event have sold out and the ten finalists who have been chosen to compete for the title of Miss Morecambe are:

Hayley McMinn, 18, from Morecambe; Jaya Jaime Rianne Bell, 23, from Morecambe; Stephanie Jackson, 20, from Morecambe; Sarah Norris, 22, from Lancaster; Samantha Williams, 19, from Carnforth; Abbigail Hague, 18, from Lancaster; Karine Wilson, 18, from Lancaster; Jessica Hoyle, 19, from Lancaster; Gemma Miller, 23, from Morecambe and Sophie Willacy, 23, from Morecambe.

The contest was last held in 2008 and was won by Lancaster University student Nicola Oxlade. It had been resurrected the year before when the winner was Laura Johnson.

Morecambe was the centre of beauty contests for many years as the home of Miss Great Britain from 1956 to 1989.
