ONE of the country's most popular poets, Simon Armitage, will be reading his work at the Waterside Hotel, Grasmere, tonight (Tuesday) as part of the summer-long fortnightly poetry readings run by the Words-worth Trust.
Poet Laureate And-rew Motion will take part in September, and has described the readings as the best poetry programmei n Britain.

* THE pioneering work of the man who became known as the 'Father of Lakeland Geology', Jonathan Otley, will be discussed in a talk at the Wordsworth Trust.

Tom Smith will present his talk on the life and work of Otley this Saturday, July 19.

Tom Smith will look at Otley's acheivements including his creation of the first really accurate map of the Lake District in 1818 and the publication of his concise guidebook in 1823.

Otley's friends in-cluded the Poet Laureate Robert Southey and the great geologist Adam Sedgwick.
