A NEW film showing the beauty and heritage of the north Lancashire area will make its debut in Arnside next Friday.
The double DVD, Bittern Country – Our Heritage, features almost three hours of historical accounts, breathtaking scenery and aerial sequences taking in Arnside, Silverdale, Carnforth, Warton, Beetham, Milnthorpe and most places in between.

The fil
m has been made by award winning local director Chris Abram, who recently produced The Lune Valley – Our Heritage, and will have its first showing at the WI and Village Hall in Orchard Road, Arnside at 7.30pm on June 13.

Chris said: "We learn of the unique three-hundred-and-fifty-million-year-old landscape, with its very special limestone pavements and ecology.

"What are grykes, clints, runnels and dolines? The video reveals all.
"We are treated to a tour around the world renowned RSPB Leighton Moss National Nature Reserve and meet the elusive bittern bird which breeds here, after which the video is named."

The film also visits Warton Crag, Leighton Hall, Carnforth during the steam age, the Arnside and Silverdale AONB, and accompanies the Queen's Guide to the sands Cedric Robinson MBE across the treacherous quicksands of Morecambe Bay.

Chris produced the film single handedly and travelled all over the countryside researching stories, visiting landmarks, and interviewing historians and guardians of the area's hidden treasures.

He also filmed the stunning aerial sequences to show the 75sq km area in a totally new light, giving a new perspective to the towns, villages and countryside he visits on the ground.

Chris added: "I'll also be giving away a copy of the DVD to every school in those areas covered, in the hope of getting more young people into nature and geography."

The film will be available in book stores in the area and Tourist Information Centres, and like Lune Valley – Our Heritage which has sold thousands of copies across the world, it is sure to delight and inspire both residents and visitors alike.
